Age UK Northamptonshire launches free Strength and Balance Classes to help older people stay active, independent and confident
Age UK Northamptonshire is delighted to announce the launch of a new programme of free Strength and Balance Classes, designed to help older people improve their strength, mobility and confidence while reducing their risk of falls.

The weekly sessions will be led by Michelle Lewis, personal trainer and Active Award winner at the BBC Radio Northampton Make a Difference Awards. Michelle will provide a welcoming and supportive environment where participants can improve their physical wellbeing, maintain their independence and enjoy social connections with others in their community.
The first class will take place on Tuesday 3rd November 2026, from 11.15am to 12.15pm, at the William and Patricia Venton Centre, Northampton NN1 5QJ. Participants will also have the option to stay afterwards for a hot meal from 12.30pm to 1.30pm for just £5.
Michelle Lewis said:
"I am looking forward to working and making a positive impact with Age UK Northamptonshire. These classes are about so much more than exercise. They are about helping people feel stronger, more confident and able to continue doing the things they enjoy. I can't wait to meet everyone and support them on their journey to staying active and independent."
Lynette from Age UK Northamptonshire said:
"At Age UK Northamptonshire, we know how important it is for older people to remain active, connected and confident. These new Strength and Balance Classes will provide a fantastic opportunity for local people to improve their physical wellbeing in a friendly and supportive setting while also making new friendships. We are delighted to be working with Michelle and look forward to seeing the positive impact these sessions will have on the people we support."
The programme has been developed to help older people remain active and independent, improve balance and mobility, and build confidence through regular physical activity. In addition to the health benefits, the sessions will offer valuable opportunities for social interaction and community connection.
The classes have been made possible thanks to funding from the Northamptonshire Community Foundation through the Cecil Pettit Fund, enabling Age UK Northamptonshire to offer the sessions free of charge to participants.
Places are limited and advance booking is essential.
