Grimsby defender undergoes surgery after breaking leg against Cobblers
Grimsby Town defender Edon Pruti has had successful surgery on the broken leg he sustained during Saturday’s game against Northampton.
The 24-year-old centre-back suffered the injury when colliding with Joe Wormleighton an hour into the game. He was sent off but, more worryingly, he had to be stretchered from the field after eight minutes of treatment.

“I went to see him in hospital after the game and he was obviously crestfallen with everything that had happened,” said manager David Artell, who also confirmed that Doug Tharme looks to have suffered a serious hamstring injury in the same game. “He had an operation on Sunday morning, it went well, and he’s now been discharged and he’s gone back home.
“He’s got family with him and I’ll speak to him again later to see how he is. He’s obviously going to be out for a while so we’ll let him go and have a holiday and then he’ll start the fairly long road to recovery.”
Reflecting a bit more on the game itself, Artell added: “Goals change games. We had five big chances and we should have scored two goals at least. Everyone thinks it’s a comfortable win for them but, if you break it down and strip the emotion out of it, we should have scored two goals. I don’t think it’ll take much for the tide to turn because if you keep creating chances, you’ll win games of football.”
