Sutton had already made BTCC history at Northamptonshire’s Silverstone circuit three weeks ago. Victory in the second race at their local circuit gave him an unassailable points advantage and made him the first driver to win five BTCC Drivers’ Championships.

The achievement moved Sutton ahead of four-time champions Andy Rouse and Colin Turkington, setting a new benchmark in the championship’s history.

He ended the season on 514 points, ahead of Tom Ingram on 387 and NAPA Racing UK team-mate Cammish on 369. The final standings reflected the pace and consistency that powered the Northamptonshire-based squad through another title-winning year.
