Kettering Salvation Army members take on 23km London Bridges Walk to build a new future for their community

Members of The Salvation Army in Kettering have gone the extra mile for their community, taking on a grueling 23km London Bridges Walk to raise funds towards the refurbishment of their historic town church building.

The team completed the challenge last September, walking from Putney to Tower Bridge and crossing every bridge along the route. The walk brought together members of the corps in a shared effort to help secure the future of their church and its community work.

The fundraising comes as Kettering Salvation Army embarks on an ambitious development project to completely refurbish its old Victorian building, which now requires extensive remedial work.

The building has served the community for many years, but its age and condition mean significant investment is needed to create a modern, flexible space capable of supporting the corps' future vision.

The proposed refurbishment could transform the building into a concert hall, mission space, community hub and shared gathering space, with plans also including the possibility of a recording studio. The vision is to create a welcoming facility in the heart of Kettering that can be used by the church and the wider community.

David Donaldson, church leader at The Salvation Army in Kettering said:

"Taking on 23km walk through London was a huge challenge, but that says so much about the commitment of our members to the future of Kettering Salvation Army. We know how much potential our building has, and we want to create a space that is open, welcoming and useful to the whole community.

"Every step we took in completing that walk was a step towards that vision, and every donation brings us closer to making it a reality. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us and would encourage others to join us in building something that Kettering can benefit from for generations to come."

The church is now appealing to the local community and supporters further afield to help turn its vision into reality.
