Two historic Northamptonshire attractions offering free entry for Heritage Open Days

Two of Northamptonshire’s historic attractions will welcome visitors for free this month as part of the annual Heritage Open Days festival.

Canons Ashby and Lyveden are among National Trust properties taking part in the nationwide celebration, which runs from September 11 to 20.

At Canons Ashby, visitors can explore the historic house, gardens and medieval church without paying for admission throughout Heritage Open Days.

Special events include performances by the Liquorice Allsorts Clarinet Ensemble in the garden and church on Saturday, September 12, at 11.30am and 2pm.

A Nature Curiosity Table will also be held between 10.30am and 2pm on Sunday, September 13.

Meanwhile, Lyveden will stage a free Harvest Market on Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20, from 10am to 4pm.

The weekend will feature local food, drink and craft producers alongside apple pressing demonstrations and activities for visitors.

People will also be able to explore Lyveden’s Elizabethan landscape, historic terraces, orchards and distinctive unfinished New Bield.

No booking is required for either event.

Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival celebrating history and culture, with this year’s theme, ‘Everyday Histories’, exploring working life through the ages.
