Talented defender makes surprise Brackley Town return - on loan from National League club

Brackley Town have announced the temporary return of right-back Tyler Lyttle, just four months on from his departure for Tamworth.

The Saints have moved to bring in the Wolverhampton Wanderers and Bristol Rovers academy product on a short-term loan deal, understood to be until January.

Lyttle joined National League outfit Tamworth on a one-year contract back in July, however he has only featured in six of a possible 14 league fixtures so far this season.

Eager to add further depth, Brackley boss Gareth Dean, who only retired at the end of last campaign as Saints captain, jumped at the opportunity to reunite with his former teammate.

Now 29, Lyttle racked up 114 appearances, five goals and five assists during his previous spell with the Saints – for three years between 2023 and 2026.

Lyttle, the son of ex-Nottinhgam Forest and West Bromwich Albion defender Des Lyttle, will be eager to feature regularly upon his surprise return to St James Park.

“It’s great to be back,” Lyttle said after completing his Saints move.

“I know the club really well having only left in the summer, and with Gaz in charge, that was a massive pull for me.

“I want to help the club push on and get back to where it should be. My aim is to play as many games as possible, help the team pick up points and push up the table.

“I’m still the same old Tyler! I’ll bring energy, quality and give 100 per cent every week. I’m looking forward to getting back out there.”

It’ll be interesting to see where Lyttle fits into Dean’s plans with the likes of Byron Pendleton and Kieran Coates regularly interchanging at right wing-back.

One option could be to deploy Pendleton on the left, though that of course means leaving out George Harmon when he’s fit.

Whichever way Dean plays it, the Brackley boss will be delighted to have another top option at his disposal as he seeks to propel his side up the National League North standings.
