Here's what's set to open at the former Turtle Bay restaurant in Northampton town centre – target opening date revealed.

The former Caribbean restaurant in Gold Street, which closed earlier this year, is set to be transformed into a brand-new venue.

The venue is set to become a Continue Arcade franchise, which describes itself as a family-friendly retro gaming venue with an arcade and bar.

A spokesman for Continue Arcade said: “We’re planning to bring Continue Arcade, a family-friendly retro gaming venue, to Gold Street, with an opening targeted for January 2027, subject to completion of the lease, fit-out and licensing process.

“The concept is simple: visitors pay an admission fee and can then enjoy the arcade games on free play, without paying each time they use a machine. The focus is on entertainment, nostalgia, and bringing people together.

“We’re planning a mix of classic arcade games and retro consoles, giving adults the chance to revisit games they grew up with while introducing a new generation to them. Whether it’s a family afternoon, a catch-up with friends or an evening out, we want to offer something different in the town centre.

“The venue will have a retro arcade theme and a bar, making it a great place to meet friends, enjoy a drink and challenge each other on the games.”

A premises licence application has been submitted for the venue, seeking permission to sell alcohol for consumption on the premises between 11am and 11pm, Monday to Sunday. The proposed opening hours are also 11am to 11pm every day.

The local franchise operator behind the Northampton venue, Bhopinder Gill, said he brings more than 20 years’ experience in hospitality and multi-site operations.

Mr Gill said: “We’re excited about investing in Gold Street, contributing to Northampton’s daytime, and evening leisure offering.

"The premises licence application would allow us to offer alcoholic drinks as part of the social experience, while gaming remains the main attraction.

“We’ll share further details about the games, opening date and recruitment as the plans progress.”

Turtle Bay closed in July this year after nine years in business, having first opened on Gold Street in 2017.

The premises were subsequently advertised to let at £70,000 a year.
