Cobblers team news for Accrington Stanley - Hogg provides injury latest

Cobblers will have more or less the same selection of players available for Saturday’s trip to Accrington Stanley.

Liam Shaw, Jack Burroughs, Jack Perkins and Ross Fitzsimons remain absent through injury, and striker Nathan Opoku has also joined the treatment room after undergoing a minor surgery earlier this week.

But the 18 players that were selected for Saturday’s win over Colchester United should be fine to go again at Accrington this weekend.

“I think pretty much the full group from last time have trained this week,” said manager Chris Hogg. “Obviously Nathan had his little procedure but that went well, which is positive news.

“We’ve still got the longer term lads who are working their way back and progressing and they are at different stages, but we’ll be pretty similar at the weekend.”

On Shaw, who was described as being ‘near a return’ by James Whiting last week, Hogg added: “We don’t have a date for him to return yet but his recovering is ongoing.”

Reflecting further on the win over Colchester, Hogg said: “It was a positive week to get six points last week and it was nice to be back at home and to give our fans something to get behind.

“There are positive signs but it’s a slog of a season and it’s a marathon and we have to keep churning out the training days and keep looking to improve and then go and perform again at Accrington at the weekend.”
