From today, (Friday, March 13) Northampton General Hospital has restricted visiting times across the hospital to once a day due to the raised awareness of Covid-19.

A spokeswoman for Northampton General Hospital has said: "We will be restricting visiting times across the hospital due to the raised awareness of viral respiratory illnesses.

"We are currently only allowing one-two visitors, per patient at a time, between 6pm and 8pm. Please do not bring children under 5 to visit."

Before, visitors could see a loved one anytime between 11am-8pm.

It has been advised, in the case of exceptional circumstances, that visitors should speak to a member of staff if they wish to visit at a different time.

If you are heading to the hospital for an outpatient appointment or to A&E medics have advised that no more than one person should accompany you - and where possible please do not bring children with you.

Different times and restrictions apply to some areas, these are:

Disney and Paddington wards: Open visiting for parent or carer’s but only one parent or carer is to stay with their child.

No other visitors are allowed, including siblings, at any time.

Paediatric assessment unit, paediatric outpatient department, paediatric medical day case: If you are asked to attend any of these areas your child should be accompanied ideally by one parent only.

Maternity: Visiting is for the birth partner only. No other visitors are allowed.

Critical care unit (ITU/HDU): Visiting will be restricted to 1-2 visitors between 6pm and 8pm.

If visiting is required outside of this time please speak to the nurse in charge.

Postnatal wards: Visiting hours will be restricted to 6pm – 8pm, with no more than two visitors per patient.

No children under 5 years old may visit.

Gossett ward: Is open for parents only with round-the-clock visiting hours.
