Rough opening date announced for brand new ‘fusion’ bar, grill and lounge at former pub in busy Northampton road

A rough opening date has been announced for a brand new ‘fusion’ bar, grill and lounge at a former pub in Northampton.

Plans were approved in September for the former Spread Eagle pub in Wellingborough Road to be converted into a restaurant.

The pub closed in January after landlady Maria Carr stepped away due to rising running costs.

After months of the building being boarded up, plans were submitted in June to convert it into a bar, grill and lounge called The Realm.

Since planning was approved, the new owners have refurbished the building inside and out, painting the exterior black with white trim around the windows.

A rough opening date is listed on the restaurant’s website as early December.

The restaurant is expected to operate daily from midday into the late evening. There is little other information on the application or the website. The restaurant has been contacted for comment.

Other similar restaurants have opened in the street in recent months, including PALM, located opposite the petrol station in Wellingborough Road. The restaurant serves Mediterranean-inspired dishes, including steaks and seafood, and offers a full bar with cocktails, wines, and craft beers.

The historic Old Trinity Church building in Wellingborough Road has also been converted into Opium, which offers ‘modern dining with a menu blending Asian-fusion dishes, steaks, burgers’, and more. It also features a cocktail and mocktail menu.

Also in Wellingborough Road, the Sir Pickering Phipps has temporarily closed while it undergoes a major £350k refurbishment. The pub is set to reopen on December 5.
