Northamptonshire aerospace entrepreneurs behind pioneering drone technology set sights on global expansion

The founders of a Northamptonshire aerospace company developing advanced propellers for drones are targeting international expansion after receiving recognition for their entrepreneurial achievements.

Rowan Carstensen and Andrea Savi established Flyber Aerospace Composites in 2023, specialising in high-performance composite propellers for drones, unmanned aerial vehicles and emerging urban air transport systems.

The company, which operates a manufacturing facility in Northamptonshire, supplies the Ministry of Defence and is developing opportunities in the United States.

Its founders have now been named Start Up Loans Ambassadors for the East Midlands by the British Business Bank, recognising their progress since launching the business.

Flyber initially secured £50,000 through the government-backed lending programme, enabling the founders to develop their first prototype and invest in research and development.

The business has subsequently attracted angel investment and is seeking £10 million in further funding by 2027 to support its expansion.

Its longer-term ambitions include establishing manufacturing facilities in the United States and India, while increasing production and developing partnerships with American defence customers.

Rowan said: "My advice to founders is to establish your network early. The relationships you build from day one can open doors to expertise, partnerships, and investment that might otherwise take years to access."

Andrea added: "Don't be afraid to ask for advice. Being able to draw on the expertise and knowledge of mentors and others who have built their own businesses is hugely beneficial."

The pair will share their experiences with other entrepreneurs as part of their ambassador roles.
