Meet the founder who has launched her ‘dream’ business at former Workbridge site which will be ‘abuzz again’ soon
Meet the founder who has launched her “dream” business at the former Workbridge site, and she hopes the destination will be “abuzz again” in the near future in Northampton.
Sarah Adams runs Natural Canine Co. on Bedford Road, which began as a natural dog treats, supplements and grooming business next to Daily Bread.
She opened more than two years ago and rebuilt from scratch after losing her previous business and home due to the knock-on effect of ill health.
Sarah ran Top Dogs Grooming for 25 years and it was Workbridge which helped her get back to full-time work. It was at Workbridge’s Christmas fair in 2023 when she was offered a cabin to sell natural dog treats.

The founder fell back in love with grooming and added more days as she built her customer base. She then added another cabin with a dog bath in June 2025, and it has grown organically since then.
Natural Canine Co. is a health-focused business, helping dogs with skin conditions, supplements and dietary advice. Teeth cleaning has been highly popular, as well as Sarah’s holistic and behaviour-led approach to grooming.
The dogs love to visit Sarah and her daughter Georgia and when she last spoke to the Chronicle & Echo, Sarah’s aim was to expand into raw food and canine nutrition which she has been studying for the past two years.
The founder has now made her dream of opening a health food shop for dogs a reality, having secured the lease of the former charity shop on the same site, and she opened to the public in August.

Sarah admitted the site remains quiet after the closure of Workbridge, but a new cafe called Ginger Jarr is opening this month and St Andrew’s Healthcare is opening a charity shop in a new location next to Daily Bread. “It will soon be abuzz again,” Sarah told this newspaper.
The bigger space is home to reiki for pets, there is a therapy room, and it is described as a “natural and non-invasive” health hub. Sarah is also teaming up with Chasing Pawfection to target puppy training and behaviour alongside grooming and coat care.
“I’ve got the opportunity now to do what I’ve always wanted to do,” said Sarah. “We’ve got freezers for raw food and nutrition is everything. It’s all about the personal service and holistic grooming by looking at the dog as a whole.
“Every dog is different and there are different variables. I’m not allowed by law to diagnose and I’m not a replacement for a vet. I’m the middle ground, like a pharmacy where you can recommend.”

Sarah looks forward to encouraging more people to take the step towards a raw or cooked diet for dogs, which she believes works out cheaper in the long-run as it improves the overall health of your dog.
“It strips everything back,” Sarah continued. “It is easy to transition over and I can offer one-to-one support. You can come and have a chat about your budget and the food nutritionally rich because it’s not processed. A healthy gut is a healthy dog.”
Talking about the opening of Ginger Jarr and the prospect of a new charity shop next to Daily Bread, Sarah concluded: “This will bring it to life again. With me and Daily Bread on site, it’s been very empty and lonely. We all want to bring it back to life.”
