More than 5,500 free tickets given away as Northampton theatre launches Christmas appeal for 2026
A Northampton theatre which has given away more than 5,500 free tickets to families facing hardship is launching its annual Christmas appeal to help hundreds more children enjoy festive shows.
Royal & Derngate's Unforgettable Gift appeal returns for 2026, offering free tickets to children and young people who might otherwise miss out on a trip to the theatre.
Since launching in 2015, the campaign has raised more than £190,000 through 22,000 donations, helping families across Northamptonshire experience live theatre at Christmas.
This year's appeal will support tickets for the pantomime Beauty and the Beast and a new stage adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks' What the Ladybird Heard at Christmas.

Donations will also fund bursaries enabling young people to participate in Royal & Derngate's youth theatre programmes.
The theatre is again working with Northamptonshire Community Foundation and the Sir Gyles Isham Bursary, on behalf of Lamport Hall Preservation Trust.
Theatregoers are being invited to add a £10 gift-aided donation when booking tickets.
Rachel McGrath, chief executive of Northamptonshire Community Foundation, said: “The Unforgettable Gift Appeal brings joy to families who might otherwise miss out on the magic of live theatre at Christmas.”
She said the foundation was delighted to continue its partnership with the theatre, particularly as it celebrates its 25th anniversary.
Holly Gladwell, acting chief executive at Royal & Derngate, said: “It never ceases to be a thrill to be able to share the magic of theatre, at this special time of year, with those who might not otherwise have a chance to enjoy it.”
Donations can be made by calling 01604 624811 or visiting royalandderngate.co.uk/unforgettable-gift.
Collection points will also be available around the theatre, alongside bucket collections following performances throughout the festive season.
