Dowson salutes Furbank and Hutchinson after special day for Saints duo

Phil Dowson says it was ‘so fitting’ that George Furbank was the one who sealed Saints’ 36-32 win against Gloucester on Saturday afternoon.

Furbank dived over in the closing stages to make sure of a bonus-point success that booked Saints a home Gallagher PREM play-off semi-final on June 12.

After the game against Gloucester, the Saints skipper was presented with a leavers shirt before being interviewed in front of team-mates, coaches and supporters.

And Saints boss Dowson had nothing but praise for Furbank in his post-match interview.

“Great player, great man, so fitting that he scores the winner and saves our skin a little bit,” Dowson said.

“It's really fitting and it speaks volumes about him as a player and how good he is.”

It was also a memorable day for Rory Hutchinson as he led the team out and went on to score on his 200th Saints appearance.

"Great player, great man, great athlete,” said Dowson, discussing the Scotland centre.

“He's really good in the environment, he's matured slowly through the years and from a quality point of view, he's an outstanding player.”
