Motorcyclist jailed after dangerous ride through Northampton Market Square and park full of families
A 26-year-old man has been jailed after riding dangerously through busy pedestrian areas in Northampton, putting children and families at risk before police used tactical contact to stop his motorcycle.
A motorcyclist who rode dangerously through Northampton's Market Square and a recreation ground where children and families were present has been jailed for 10 months after police brought his reckless ride to an end by pinning his motorcycle against a fence.
A spokesperson for Northamptonshire Police said: “Dylan Sedgeley, aged 26, of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court after admitting a string of driving offences, including driving a motor vehicle dangerously, driving without insurance and a licence. He also admitted possession of Class A drugs.
“The court sentenced Sedgeley to 10 months' imprisonment for dangerous driving, to run consecutively to a possession of a knife offence and disqualified him from driving for 36 months.
“The hearing was told that at about 2.30pm on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, police received reports of a black motorcycle being ridden through the pedestrianised area of Northampton's Market Square.
“The motorcycle was not displaying a registration plate and was carrying both a rider and passenger, creating a significant risk to the public.
“Roads Policing officers quickly located the motorcycle in Northampton and followed it as it continued to be ridden dangerously through residential and pedestrian areas, including Far Cotton Recreation Ground where children and families were present. The pursuit continued to Pleydell Road, where the two occupants briefly got off the motorcycle before attempting to ride away.
“Due to the ongoing danger posed to pedestrians and other road users, officers used tactical contact to bring the incident to a safe conclusion. The tactic enabled officers to safely stop the motorcycle and prevent any further risk to the public.
“The motorcycle was stopped after it mounted a kerb and was pinned against a fence, preventing it from being driven any further.
“Sedgeley was arrested at the scene and his passenger, Sean Prosser, aged 31, was arrested nearby after attempting to leave the area on foot,” the spokesperson added.
Police Constable Tom Williams from Northamptonshire Police Roads Policing Team, said: "Sedgeley's actions that day showed a complete disregard for the safety of other road users and pedestrians. He rode through busy public areas, including a recreation ground where children and families were present, putting people at unnecessary risk.”
