Team news from Northampton's second pre-season friendly against Coventry City
Cobblers have named their starting XI and subs for Saturday’s second pre-season friendly against Coventry City.
Summer signings Zach Jeacock, James Maxwell, Logan Briggs and Harvey Saunders all start at Sixfields, while two trialists are on the bench, including Grant Ward, who played against Leicester City last week.
The other trialist is a new one in defender Jake Rooney, cousin of former England and Man United captain Wayne. The 22-year-old centre-back came through the youth systems at Tranmere and Burnley and spent four years at Derby County before he was released by the club in May. He also played 16 times on loan at Boston United last season. In August 2023, Rooney picked up an anterior cruciate ligament injury which left him on the sidelines for a year.
There are also a number of youth team players involved in Saturday's friendly at Sixfields.
Ex-Northampton loanee Matt Grimes starts for a strong-looking Coventry side. Full team news can be found below.
