'Nowhere near the level' - Honest Hogg takes the blame for poor first half in Accy draw

An honest Chris Hogg accepted ‘a lot of the responsibility’ for his side’s ‘really disappointing’ first half performance in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Accrington Stanley.

Cobblers were second best in every department and were fortunate to still be in the game at half-time. Charlie Warren gave Accy an early lead and the hosts missed several chances to extend it before Town finished strong.

They were still heading for defeat going into stoppage-time but substitute Elliott List rescued a dramatic point when going through on goal and thumping home in front of over 500 jubilant away supporters.

Hogg said: “It was a snatch in the end because the first half was nothing in terms of what we want to be as a club and as a team and we had discussions about it at half-time and tweaked a few bits.

“We were nowhere near the level we expect of each other and nowhere near the competitive element that you need to go into any football game, let alone at Accrington where you know it’s going to be fast and furious. They’re unbeaten at home and they’ve been on a good run.

“I was really disappointed with the first half and I take a lot of the responsibility in terms of some of the setup stuff, but we changed a few bits in the second half and credit to the boys, they kept going and managed to find a way.

“Ultimately that’s what good teams do, they have to find a way when they’re not at their best to get something out of the game and we’ve managed to do that.”
