Cobblers have bolstered their defensive options with the signing of centre-back Fraser Horsfall on a two-year deal from Macclesfield Town.

Following Scott Wharton's return to Blackburn and the departure of Jordan Turnbull, Town had just one senior, natural centre-back - Charlie Goode - in their ranks when they returned for pre-season last week.

But Horsfall, who has worked his way up from non-league, is a player that Keith Curle has long since admired and the Town boss has got his man this week.

The 23-year-old, who stands at 6ft 3in, played 31 games in all competitions for Macclesfield last season, including the 1-0 defeat to Northampton in February. The Silkmen were eventually relegated from League Two after a series of points deductions.

Horsfall started out at Huddersfield Town and after a number of loan spells, moved to Kidderminster Harriers in 2017, making 76 appearances for the Aggborough side.

His performances attracted the interest of EFL clubs with a number of Championship clubs monitoring his progress before a move to Macclesfield in the summer of 2019.

The signing is subject to EFL approval.
