Spread opened on Adnitt Road in Abington in January 2023, less than three years after grazing tables and boxes kickstarted the business for founder Amy Adams.

The venture began when Amy created a grazing table for her daughter’s third birthday in May 2019, which saw a variety of foods placed decoratively on the table for guests to enjoy, and this sparked her passion to become more creative with catering.

Many of the guests asked Amy who she had hired to create the grazing table, and she then started to produce them for friends and family as a hobby during her maternity leave.

As the hobby gained momentum and the time came for Amy to return to her job part-time in September 2019, she never returned and took Spread on as her full-time venture.

Spread was going from strength to strength until their building on Adnitt Road was left with structural damage after a stolen car hit another vehicle which ploughed into it. This hit and run incident took place almost a year ago in December 2025, and the building was deemed unsafe to enter until it had been repaired.

“It was a shocking thing to happen,” Amy previously told the Chronicle & Echo. “But it’s one of those things. You never expect something like that to happen so we decided to carry on and hope for the best.”

Amy and her team immediately knew they had to find an alternative as there was no way this was going to be the end of Spread for the months it was anticipated to fix the building.

Their new temporary location on Roe Road was prepared in just five days following the incident, and this is the preparation kitchen of Adriana Staniscia from Hample Italian Hampers.

Adriana collaborates with Spread and is located in the Adnitt Road premises as well, and she has kindly let Spread utilise the space on Roe Road for as long as needed.

It took five 12-hour days to get the new space ready to open to the public in January 2026, and the hard work commenced in the new year as Amy wanted her team to have the Christmas period off as planned.

Business is operating in an identical way to how it was before and the team sees a steady flow of customers on Roe Road, which is just around the corner from their original building.

Almost nine months on from the reopening of Spread in its temporary location, Amy took to social media to share the big news that Adnitt Road had opened again.

The team finally felt like they were starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and Amy’s builders began working full steam ahead to build the cafe with seating they were supposed to open at the start of 2026.

This marks an exciting time for the business, which is finally able to turn their long-awaited plans to introduce customer seating into a reality, and this has been met with nothing but positivity by the Spread community.

In a post recently uploaded to Spread’s Instagram, which has amassed more than 27,000 followers, Amy said there are “no words” for how close the transformation is to being complete.

The opening date will be revealed within “the next week or two” and Amy expressed her gratitude. The post read: “Our perseverance, your belief, my team, your support, our community and my bestest friends and family.

“Thank you for sticking by us during the darkest times. This year has really been one to remember and I can’t explain what it feels like to have so nearly made it full circle back on top of everything again. Can’t wait to share it with you.”
