Relative hits out at McDonald's after accessing ‘adult-sensitive news content’ on restaurant tablets
McDonald’s says content available to children is “carefully curated and developed in partnership with trusted providers to provide a safe and engaging experience”
A relative has hit out at the content available on tablets in McDonald’s.

Timothy Munday recently took his niece to eat-in at a restaurant in Northampton and they sat at a table with built-in tablets.
While his niece was playing on one of the computers, he decided to also look at one, but says he was left shocked at some of the content available.

Users must select whether they are children or adults, with the adult section including links to national media apps.
It contained articles about the recent tiger attack in Yorkshire which left a man dead, along with coverage of a rape case and comedian Russell Brand’s ongoing trial.
Timothy said: “It let me access news outlets allowing me to see content like this.
“I think it's disgraceful. I had to confirm I was over 16 and within one click I was seeing adult sensitive content.”

But McDonald’s says their tablets are for all ages to use, and adults must verify their age before accessing content.
A spokesman said: "Our restaurant tablets provide customers with access to a wide range of content, including games and entertainment for both children and adults.
"Content available to children is carefully curated and developed in partnership with trusted providers to provide a safe and engaging experience. Access to content intended for adults is subject to an age-verification step before users can enter that section of the platform."
