Council purchases 87 affordable new build homes to buy and rent in Northampton
With demand for affordable housing continuing to grow, West Northamptonshire Council (WNC) has secured 87 new homes on a new build estate near Northampton.
WNC has agreed to buy the 87 properties from Tilia Homes at the Landimore Road development in Hardingstone, Northampton.
A total of 61 properties will be available for social rent and 26 for shared ownership with all homes built to modern design and energy efficiency standards which will be suitable for individuals, couples and families.
The homes were originally designated as affordable housing through a Section 106 planning agreement but WNC feared that without intervention, there was a risk the affordable housing provision would not be delivered as intended.

By stepping in, homes have been secured for local residents and ‘protected a vital supply of affordable housing for the future’, according to WNC.
Cllr Charlie Hastie, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities at WNC, said: "This is a significant opportunity to secure more affordable homes for our communities and ensure they remain available to local people who need them most.
“Demand for affordable housing across West Northamptonshire continues to grow, and this acquisition will deliver a mix of social rent and shared ownership homes to support people at different stages of their housing journey.
“By acting now, we are protecting these homes for future residents and delivering on our commitment to increasing the supply of high-quality, affordable housing across the local area."
The Landimore Road scheme forms part of a wider sustainable urban extension to Northampton, helping to create a balanced and thriving community with a strong provision of affordable housing.
The first homes are expected to be completed from winter 2027, with further properties handed over in phases through to 2031.
