Northampton Borough Council is in the final stages of bidding for £12.5 million from the Government's Future High Streets Fund. In a press conference earlier today, Friday, the borough released new images and fresh updates on projects in the town centre.

Abington Street - this new artist impression is looking down Abington Street towards the site of the former M&S building. Under the plans, the building would be replaced with accommodation and retail/cafes. This project needs combined funding by developers and the borough council to become a reality

.
Northampton Railway Station - The plan has always been for a second phase of the town's railway station development. It's been delayed for a number of different reasons but is now back on track. The plans are for a new multi-storey car park of around 1,300 spaces. The borough council would lease the car park and operate it. The work would be carried out with minimal impact on the existing car parkand is due to start "in the not too distant future". It could then lead to further development of the site.
.
Northampton Museum and Art Gallery - As the Chron reported earlier this week, the museum was due to have already opened but was delayed by lockdown. The main contractor has effectively finished and is at the "snagging list" stage. The aim is to get it open by the end of the year but one challenges is that no items can be installed in the museum until work is totally complete - there can't be any dust.
