Northamptonshire outdoor learning centre receives £1,000 donation to help children enjoy nature in all weathers

Children exploring the great outdoors at a popular Northamptonshire learning centre will be able to stay warm and dry thanks to a £1,000 donation from a local housebuilder.

Persimmon Homes Midlands has donated the money to Everdon Outdoor Learning Centre, near Daventry, to help replace ageing outdoor clothing and equipment.

The funding will be used to purchase new wellies and waterproofs, ensuring children and young people can continue enjoying activities whatever the weather.

Set in the heart of the Northamptonshire countryside, the centre has been helping youngsters learn beyond the classroom for more than 50 years.

Its activities include studying local ecosystems and wildlife, orienteering, navigation and team-building exercises, with children encouraged to explore surrounding woodlands, ponds, rivers and meadows.

The donation comes from Persimmon Homes Midlands, which has major housing developments at Towcester Grange, Harlestone Grange and Dallington Grange.

Paul Stones, technical director for Persimmon Homes Midlands, said: “We at Persimmon Homes value being good neighbours and contributing to communities where we are building.

“So we’re obviously thrilled to be able to support the Everdon Outdoor Learning Centre continue to provide young people in West Northants access to nature.

“I’m proud that this is just the latest of thousands of pounds of community contributions we’ve made throughout Northamptonshire, alongside our own Community Champions scheme – which I urge any community group looking for support to apply for.”

Councillor Nigel Stansfield, West Northamptonshire Council’s cabinet member for environment, recycling and waste, welcomed the contribution.

He said: “Everdon Outdoor Learning Centre is a vital resource for local children and community groups, giving them access to a rural setting to understand more about nature, wildlife and the local environment.

“We’re very grateful to Persimmon Homes Midlands for this donation, which will be used for much needed wellies and waterproofs at the centre to ensure children and young people can continue to enjoy Everdon in comfort during all weathers.”
