Northamptonshire fire cadets raise hundreds for charity with gruelling ‘999 Challenge’

Fire cadets from across Northamptonshire have been praised after completing a demanding fundraising challenge in support of the Fire Fighters Charity.

The cadets took part in the “999 Challenge” on Wednesday May 27, travelling across nine different fire stations in under nine hours while completing a series of emergency service drills.

Organised by Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service, the challenge saw cadets put their training and teamwork to the test in a range of realistic scenarios including a road traffic collision, house fire, hazardous materials incident and underground sewer rescue.

The young participants completed nine drills in total, with organisers praising the effort and commitment shown throughout the day.

So far, the cadets have raised £677 for the Fire Fighters Charity, which supports firefighters, fire staff and their families across the UK.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “A huge well done to our fire cadets that took part in the 999 Challenge.

“They put their skills and knowledge into practise and completed a variety of drills putting in 100 percent effort.”

The service also thanked everyone who had donated, shared and supported the fundraiser, adding that further donations are still welcome.
