Northampton retirement village residents enjoy special visit from police detection dogs
Residents at a Northampton retirement village were treated to a special visit from two highly trained detection dogs and their handler.
Former Northamptonshire Police officer and award-winning dog handler Paul Mitchinson visited Richmond Villages Northampton with Willow, a Labrador, and George, a working cocker spaniel.
Residents watched demonstrations of the dogs' impressive abilities and learned how their powerful sense of smell helps detect illegal substances.
Willow works as a drugs detection dog at festivals and events across the country, while George specialises in finding illegal tobacco.

Paul also shared stories from his policing career, including an occasion when illegal tobacco was discovered hidden inside a local shop.
The visit proved popular with residents, who were fascinated by the animals' abilities and the important work they undertake.
Paul now plans to make regular return visits, providing further opportunities for residents to meet the dogs while helping Willow and George develop their socialisation skills.
