'Men are defecating in the street': Residents concerned as proposed nightclub submits plans to open until 4.30am at former bank in busy Northampton street
Residents have raised concerns over plans for a new nightclub to open in a busy Northampton street until the early hours of the morning.
The venue is located in the former Barclays Bank building on Wellingborough Road, opposite Monks Park Road Working Men’s Club.
An application has recently been submitted for a premises licence for Red Sea, on the first floor of 265 Wellingborough Road, Northampton.
The application, submitted on October 8, seeks permission for alcohol sales, recorded music, regulated entertainment and late-night refreshments.

Under the proposals, the venue could open until 2.30am from Monday to Thursday, until 4.30am on Fridays and Saturdays, and until 2am on Sundays.
The licensing notice names Hebtemariam Tesfazgi as the applicant.
Labour councillor Zoe Smith, who represents Abington and Phippsville alongside Cllr Bob Purser, said both councillors had been contacted by residents about the application.
She said: “Cllr Purser and I have been contacted by a number of residents regarding this licensing application and share the concerns raised.
“I have contacted the Licensing team directly to highlight that this particular corner plot is in very close, direct proximity to residential streets and the lateness of the proposed hours and the likely associated noise, disturbance and anti-social behaviour would have a significant impact on the wellbeing, safety and residential amenity of neighbours.
“It would also be likely to exacerbate rubbish and the significant parking pressures in the area.
“I have asked that our comment be seriously considered and that Cllr Purser and I be kept up to date with developments on this application.”
One social media post urged residents of Monks Park Road, Florence Road and neighbouring streets to object to the application.
It said: “This will affect noise, antisocial behaviour and our parking and sadly has already affected residents, with loud music already playing at silly hours and men defecating in the street.”
Another resident said they had driven along Monks Park Road at around 9pm on a Friday and found ‘cars parked everywhere’.
Residents can submit written representations to West Northamptonshire Council’s licensing team before October 30, 2026. [email protected]
