Northampton man named patients' champion

Steve Hartley won Patient Champion of the Year at the Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards (ANSAs), for his work as an online community champion supporting patients.

Held annually, the ANSAs are held to celebrate, recognise and thank outstanding supporters who keep the pioneering blood cancer charity moving forward.

The Patient Champion of the Year award recognises Steve’s work supporting others in need, following his own recovery from cancer.

51-year-old, Steve, a construction manager, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in August 2012 - five months later he received a life-saving stem-cell transplant.

Since 2014 Steve has used his experience to help others by regularly contributing to Anthony Nolan’s Patient and Families online forum.

Steve said: “I’m so proud to win the award for Anthony Nolan Patient Champion of the Year.

“I feel incredibly humbled when I hear the achievements of some of the other award winners, but collectively we all support and spread the word to raise the profile of Anthony Nolan.

“I’ll keep doing what I do and support Anthony Nolan in any way I can.
