As Raeburn Road and Fairfield remain cordoned off, with police officers present, the scene has been described.

One woman who lives in the area said: "It seems quite quiet. It's quite an eerie atmosphere, like an ominous uncomfortable feeling.

"There was confusion this morning as parents tried to get their children to school.

"My thoughts, however lie with the victim and his family. I just hope the perpetrator is caught."

Superintendent Kev Mulligan for the force said: “This is an exceptionally fast-paced investigation with a lot of enquiries to work through but we are making good progress and I am absolutely committed to bringing the people responsible for this man’s death to justice.

“Specially trained officers are supporting the man’s loved ones at this time and I would kindly ask the media to respect their privacy at this extremely distressing time.

“Please come forward if you have any information about what happened here or if you have any Ring doorbell, dashcam or CCTV footage that you think could assist our enquiries."

House-to-house enquiries will also be taking place in the area and residents can expect to see an increase in uniformed police patrols.
