Cadillac driver in court over Northampton crash which left motorist with fractured ribs
Magistrates sentenced a driver after he admitted causing a three-car crash on a busy Northampton road which left another motorist with fractured ribs.
According to court documents, 74-year-old Peter O’Brien failed to stop a black Cadillac as he approached the give-way junction on Stimpson Avenue to enter Wellingborough Road — just a few yards from his home address — on April 14, 2026.
A statement of facts alleged that the Cadillac “approached the road junction and despite slowing down, failed to stop at the give-way line and instead continued forward, bringing their vehicle to a halt in the middle of the major road, which held priority.”
The prosecution statement added: “By obstructing the path of the adjoining road, the defendant left the injured party with insufficient time or space to take evasive action, resulting in a collision. This primary impact caused the injured party to lose control of her vehicle and subsequently collide with a third-party oncoming vehicle.

“All involved vehicles sustained minor damage. As a direct result of the incident, the injured party sustained fractured ribs alongside other minor physical injuries.”
The junction is a well-known landmark on Wellingborough Road with the popular Monks Park Working Men’s Club building on a corner of Stimpson Avenue.
O’Brien, of Stimpson Avenue, pleaded guilty to driving a mechanically propelled vehicle on a road / in a public place without due care and attention at a hearing in Northampton on October 14. He was fined £286 and ordered to pay a total of £244 towards prosecution costs and a surcharge to fund victim services. His driving licence was also endorsed with six penalty points.
