Breathwork business owner offers women the opportunity to step away from demands of everyday life

“It’s hard to make friends and meet people as an adult”

The founder of a wellness business centred on breathwork offers women the monthly opportunity to step away from the demands of everyday life and spend an evening in good company in Northampton.

Founded by Nicola Griffiths, the first WomenKin event was hosted at the end of last month as part of the Breathfolk offering – which launched in the town in October 2026.

Through guided breathwork, conversation and shared moments of rest, Nicola creates a space for women to connect with themselves and others. This is crucial when juggling work, family life and the expectations placed upon them.

WomenKin is an invitation to take two hours that belong entirely to you at Resonate Studio on Barrack Road. Tickets are priced at £25 per person, with supported and accessible places available at half the cost.

“Breathfolk was launched in October 2026 as a response to how we can breathe in community,” said Nicola, who completed her training in April this year.

“A lot of the things I’ve been going to have been outside of Northampton. There are some people doing bits here and everyone has their own style. A pillar of what I do is bringing people together.

“I used to have a cafe in town and ran supper clubs, and now I’m bringing people together in a different way and using breath as a vehicle to do that. Social media has caused isolation and we’re now gathering in different ways.

“It’s hard to make friends and meet people as an adult. This gives women the opportunity to come together, socialise and there’s a lot of validation that comes with shared experiences.”

Nicola practiced breathwork for the first time during the pandemic, which she described as “incredibly powerful” and it scared her as she did not realise that channeling the breath could have such an impact.

When she looked to retrain and give back to the community years later, her experience of breathwork had stuck with her and she was passionate about making it as accessible to as many people as possible.

“Breathfolk is a place that allows you to meet your breath, bringing attention and focus to yourself,” said Nicola. “WomenKin is the current offering but people can register their interest for breath, bump and beyond for the new year, aimed at pregnant women and mums.”

Nicola has had a “super positive” response to the launch of Breathfolk and WomenKin, with attendees arriving feeling one way and leaving feeling much better. They praised how nice it is to take time for themselves to connect with their breath, as well as using the techniques in their daily lives.

The WomenKin sessions take place around every third Tuesday of each month at Resonate Studio, and Nicola is excited to welcome new and returning faces to future sessions.
