Two more Covid-19 deaths takes total to eight in Northamptonshire

Two more patients have died at Northampton General Hospital after testing positive for Covid-19.

The hospital released a statement this afternoon (Tuesday March 31) confirming the deaths which take the total in Northamptonshire to eight.

Mr Matthew Metcalfe, medical director for Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust, said: “Sadly we can confirm that two patients who had been tested positive for Covid-19 have died.

"The families have been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.

The hospital are not releasing any further details are being released regarding the latest deaths.

A 92-year-old man died at the hospital on March 16 and a second, a 78-year-old man, last Thursday. Both had underlying health issues.

Three more deaths were confirmed by the hosptial yesterday (Monday) but officials did not issue any further details.

Father-of-two Craig Ruston, a 45-year-old who had motor neurone disease, died at Kettering General Hospital a fortnight ago.

Public Health England announced this afternoon that 1,789 people have died across the UK as at 5pm yesterday. That is a rise of 367 in 24 hours.

There are now a total of 25,150 known cases of coronavirus in the UK.

Latest figures for the number of known cases in Northamptonshire have yet to be issued but the total as at 9am yesterday was 153, a rise of 124 in a week.
