You may have seen that we already published summaries of the openings and closures throughout the first and second quarters of this year.
This is not a new addition to the Chronicle & Echo, with a bumper list published at the end of each year to reflect on what has been added and removed from the town’s business community.
Being a loyal customer to your favourite businesses has never been more important, so why not support some of the new ventures trying to make a name for themselves across our town.
Many businesses have reported that 2025 has been challenging and with lots of companies entering what is typically their busiest time of year, every purchase counts.
Take a look at the businesses that have opened and closed between the start of July and now across Northampton…

9. CLOSURE – JD
JD Sports relocated from Abington Street to a larger store in the Grosvenor Centre at the end of August, leaving its former high street premises vacant. The major retailer first opened on Abington Street in 2011 and the recent move added to a string of vacancies in the town centre’s main shopping area, which was recently refurbished by West Northamptonshire Council with £5 million from the Towns Fund. 10. OPENING – JD
The new JD Sports now occupies the former Next unit on the ground floor of the Grosvenor Centre, doubling the size of its previous store with more than 3,300 sq. ft of retail space and an additional 14 metres of frontage. It opened to the public on August 28 and celebrated during the weekend to follow, with live DJs and the chance to win JD gift cards. 11. OPENING – Dubai Lounge
Following the quiet closure of Jimmy's Sports Bar on Harlestone Road after six years in business, Dubai Lounge opened during the summer months in its place. The business advertises itself as a restaurant, shisha lounge and private event space. On social media, Dubai Lounge promotes grilled peri-peri chicken and skewers, 10 large screens for watching sport, and a selection of mocktails. Photo: National World

12. CLOSURE – Potz Ceramic Studio
Potz Ceramic Studio closed down its former premises at Glennons Yard in Billing Garden Village on September 1 after nearly two decades in the area. After the business had to close for three days due to flooding in December last year, the troubling time made the team realise they needed to move. They closed with six days to go until the business opened in its bigger and better new location at Weston Favell Shopping Centre. Photo: Potz Ceramic Studio
