Pay rise announced for Amazon workers including staff at Northampton centre
Amazon workers, including those based at the company’s fulfilment centre in Northampton, are set to receive a pay rise of up to 5.6 per cent.
The online retail giant has announced that minimum starting pay for frontline operations employees across the UK will rise to £15.10 an hour from September 27.
Depending on location, starting pay will increase by up to 5.6 per cent to £15.10 an hour, or by 5.2 per cent to £16.10.
It means annual salaries for full-time frontline employees will now start at a minimum of £31,408, rising to £33,488 in some locations.

Amazon operates a major fulfilment centre in both Northampton and Daventry, where employees work across its operations network.
The company says its minimum starting pay has increased by 80p an hour during the past year and by 44 per cent since 2022.
Tens of thousands of frontline operations employees across the UK are expected to benefit from the latest increase.
John Boumphrey, Amazon UK country manager, said: “Our frontline teams are the backbone of our business, and this pay increase reflects that. Starting salaries now exceed £31,000 a year, and we’ll continue investing in our people because they deserve it.
“But pay is only part of what makes Amazon a great place to work. From comprehensive benefits to genuine opportunities to progress – we want every employee to feel valued from the moment they join.”
Amazon said employees also receive benefits including private medical insurance, life insurance, income protection, subsidised meals, free Prime membership and a company pension plan from their first day.
From October 1, staff will also receive an uncapped 10 per cent discount on eligible online groceries and everyday essentials.
The company also operates its Career Choice programme, which funds nationally recognised training courses worth up to £3,000 per employee each year.
More than 30,000 UK employees have participated in the scheme since it launched in 2014.
