This all began with Tom’s father’s family business in 1995 and Tom has grown up in the fireworks industry, supporting in the family-run shops. Tom and Rebecca met around 15 years ago and she began working in the shops too.

It was in 2019 when Tom and Rebecca opened their own shop independently in Buckingham, and three years later they established their second in Leamington Spa.

With Rebecca having previously lived in Northampton, they were keen to open a shop in the town and snapped up the Balfour Road location when it became available.

“In the fireworks industry, a lot of places that sell them aren’t specialists and sell other things year-round,” Rebecca told the Chronicle & Echo. “The industry isn’t always presented in the best way as there aren’t always staff who know the products.

“We look at the safety aspect, with garden checks, ensuring customers know how to light them, understanding the risks, making sure our stores are family-friendly and that fireworks can be enjoyed by everyone safely.”

Rebecca says they are positioning themselves as the only specialist fireworks store in the town in the run up to Bonfire Night, Diwali and New Year’s Eve, and all customers watch safety videos in store and leave knowing exactly how to use what they have purchased.

Rebecca continued: “We talk people through the firework-buying process, establish if they have used them before and put them at ease if they are buying fireworks for the first time. We’re not expecting them to have any knowledge.

“We ask if they’re putting on their own display or need a single item to take to a display with friends, and if there will be children there. The shop is organised by different price points, and there are discounted bundles to fit into people’s budgets.”

The store opened on October 16 and will run until after Diwali. It will then reopen again on December 27 until New Year’s Eve, after which the shop will be emptied of all stock.placeholder image
