Plans unveiled to turn former nightclub in Northamptonshire town into huge new KFC

Plans have been submitted to turn a former nightclub and bar in Northamptonshire into a huge new branch of KFC.

The former Chasers nightclub in Daventry closed down in September 2025 and has stood empty and boarded up ever since. The building had been a well-known part of the town’s nightlife before shutting its doors.

However, the Grade II listed building on New Street could be brought back into use as a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant, according to submitted plans to West Northants Council.

The applicant Beamish Planning Consultancy said: “The proposals would bring back into active use currently vacant commercial premises. The proposals would contribute positively to the vitality and viability of Daventry town centre, including its evening economy, and would also bring significant economic benefits associated with the creation of between 40 and 50 new jobs within a highly sustainable town centre location.”

“We would welcome discussions with the local authority regarding the proposed trading hours of the premises, although we would emphasise that prior to its closure in September 2025 the premises previously traded until 04:00 at weekends,” the applicant added.

According to planning documents, there would be 90 covers inside the eatery.

Planning documents also show external changes to the building including illuminated KFC branding.

The applicant said: “The proposed external alterations and additions would have minimal impact upon the character, setting and appearance of the Grade II listed host building.

“Weight must also be attached to how the proposals as a whole would bring back into active use a currently vacant designated heritage asset, the condition of which is likely to deteriorate further if it remains vacant for a considerable period.”

Reform councillor Alexander McMurty, who represents Daventry South, has welcomed the plans. He says: “I am in support of the proposed development in place of Chasers. It is an appropriate use of the space, will provide jobs locally and likely attract visitors.”

Councillor McMurty did not respond when this newspaper recently asked him about the condition of the roads in Daventry.

A target decision date for the KFC application has been set for April 1. Members of the public can submit comments until March 19.
