Nando's restaurant set to open at empty unit in prime part of Northampton – and the land it sits on is for sale at £3.65million
Nando’s is reportedly set to open at an empty unit in a prime part of Northampton – and the land it sits on is up for sale for £3.65 million.
A 10,685 sq ft parcel of land in Sixfields – home to Wagamama, the former Chiquito restaurant and and 87-space car park – has gone up for sale with Savills estate agents for a whopping £3.65million.
The sales advert says the freehold site is a ‘prime’ restaurant investment opportunity boasting a strategic location which includes nearby establishments such as Cineworld, McDonald’s, Five Guys, Sixfields public house, Bella Italia, and Tenpin.
According to the sales advert, the former Chiquito site has been let to Nando’s Chickenland Limited on a long-term lease at £112,500 per year. Wagamama’s lease is also reportedly long-term at £150k a year.

A Nando’s spokeswoman said: “It’s great to hear there is already excitement around our famous PERi-PERi flavour and good vibes coming to Sixfields Leisure – our second restaurant in Northampton. We are looking to open later this year and will be able to share more details soon. In the meantime, we’d love to talk to any charities or community groups interested in teaming up with our No Chuckin' Our Chicken food donation and employer initiatives. Get in touch at [email protected].”
Despite the sale of the land, the sales advert says the businesses will ‘continue to trade unaffected from both premises during the marketing of the property and post completion of the sale’.
Wagamama has also been contacted for comment.
Chiquitos ceased operations in September 2023 and the site has remained vacant ever since. However, in the first few months of 2024, workers were seen renovating the restaurant, sparking rumours of what it might be turned into, with many saying Nando’s.

At the time, a Nando's spokeswoman responded to the rumours, saying: "We're always looking for new opportunities to bring our world-famous PERi-PERi to fans across the UK, and we'd love to open a new restaurant in Northampton, so watch this space.”
If Nando's proceeds with the move, it will join Wagamama and other prominent brands that have invested in Sixfields over the past few years.
