VCL Productions Summer Youth Project in Northampton returns for a second year!

The curtain is officially up on another exciting summer as rehearsals begin for VCL Productions' second Summer Youth Project, bringing together 55 talented young performers from across Northamptonshire.

Over the next two weeks, the cast will embark on an intensive rehearsal process as they prepare to bring the much-loved musical Shrek Jr. to life at The Old Savoy – Home of The Deco Theatre.

From the first read-through to opening night, participants will experience what it's like to work in a professional theatre environment. Along the way, they will develop their acting, singing and performance skills, build confidence, form lasting friendships and create memories that will stay with them long after the final curtain falls.

The project reflects VCL Productions' commitment to making high-quality performing arts opportunities accessible to all young people. This year's programme includes a number of funded places made possible through the Northamptonshire Sport Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme, ensuring that more young people can take part regardless of their financial circumstances.

The company has also received valuable support from local businesses whose sponsorship has helped make this ambitious project possible, demonstrating the strength of community investment in young people and the arts.

Alistair Lloyd, Creative Director of VCL Productions, said: "Our Summer Youth Project is about so much more than producing a musical. It's about giving young people the opportunity to challenge themselves, discover new talents, build confidence and experience the incredible sense of belonging that theatre creates. Watching these performers grow over the next two weeks will be just as rewarding as seeing them step onto the stage for their performances."

The project will culminate in two public performances of Shrek Jr. on Saturday 15 August at The Old Savoy – Home of The Deco Theatre, showcasing everything the young cast has achieved in just two weeks of rehearsals.
