For six decades, “Motown” Mick Murphy has been sharing his love of soul music with audiences. But his events are about more than the music: Mick regularly brings people together to raise money for Marie Curie, the charity providing care and support for people living with a terminal illness and their families.

A photograph taken at The Black Diamond shows Mick presenting a cheque for £4,500 to Marie Curie on 30 November 2025, highlighting the fundraising efforts behind his events.

Now, Mick's remarkable milestone is being celebrated with a special Diamond anniversary night at The Black Diamond in Northampton on Saturday 24 October, with proceeds going to Marie Curie.

Running from 7pm until 11.30pm at the venue on Lower Harding Street, the event will bring together a line-up of DJs playing classic Motown and Northern Soul entirely on vinyl.

Mick will be joined by DJ Phatbloke, Karl and Marco, Phil Swain, Ivan Coleman and Paul K Motley for an evening of timeless records, dancing and shared memories.

The Black Diamond's Art Deco-inspired surroundings provide a fitting backdrop for the celebration, with the venue regularly hosting Motown and soul events that bring music fans together.

Whether you're a lifelong Northern Soul fan, a regular on the dance floor or simply curious about the music, the evening offers a chance to celebrate Mick's 60-year career while supporting a worthwhile cause.

Adrian, events manager at The Black Diamond, said: “Sixty years behind the decks is a real milestone, and we're delighted to celebrate Mick with a big night of Motown and soul. It's fantastic that these events bring people together through music while also raising money for charity. With an excellent line-up of DJs and an all-vinyl soundtrack, we'd love to see the dance floor full for Mick's anniversary, everyone is welcome!"

Tickets cost £10 and are available from The Black Diamond website.
