Former Northampton Rowing Club competitors enjoy success at the Henley Royal Regatta
Northampton Rowing Club continued its recent tradition of producing outstanding young athletes, with a trio of them enjoying success at the Henley Royal Regatta.

The 187th Henley Regatta took place on the River Thames, and brought together world-class rowers for one of Britain’s most prestigious summer sporting events.
Former Northampton rower Issy Hull, competing for Reading University, reached the semi-finals of the Queen Victoria Challenge Cup before being defeated by Dutch club Skoll, who were later beaten by Reading's A crew in the final.
Another one who came through the Northampton ranks, Teagan Smith, who was a gold medallist at last year’s Coupe de la Jeunesse, raced in the inaugural Danesfield Cup for Tideway Scullers School.
Despite a strong effort, her crew was eliminated in the first round by Leander Club.
The standout ex-NRC success though came from Cameron McKenzie, now rowing for Leander Club in the Fawley Challenge Cup for Under-19 quadruple sculls.
After a season of intensive training and strong results at National Schools, Metropolitan and Marlow Regattas, the crew arrived at Henley as one of the seeded contenders.
Facing a challenging draw that included top British, American and New Zealand crews, Leander produced a series of impressive victories to reach Sunday’s final against Tideway Scullers School.
A fast, aggressive start gave Leander an early advantage, which they steadily extended before crossing the line two lengths clear in 6:38 to secure victory and claim the coveted Henley winner’s medals.
Attention now turns to the National Junior and Club Championships in Nottingham, where the club hopes to build on an already outstanding season.
