Hogg hails Hoskins' attitude and praises maturing Warhurst
Cobblers boss Chris Hogg was full of praise for Sam Hoskins’ mentality and attitude after the long-serving forward bagged his first goal of the season on Saturday.
Hoskins was on target a few minutes after half-time against Colchester United, adding to Matty Warhurst’s early header with an intelligent near post finish from Owen Dale’s low cross. The 33-year-old has made 13 appearances in all competitions so far this season but he’s started just three league games.

"It was a little bit of craft by Sam to get his goal and I was so pleased to see him score,” said Hogg. “I have to say, and I've said this to the group, Sam has been terrific every single day since I came into the club.
"He's probably not played the minutes he would have wanted but what he is behind the scenes is a terrific character and someone who does everything properly, even when he's annoyed at me.
"He gets his head down and he works so hard and he's a big part of the belief and the character within the group. I was delighted to see him score and contribute towards the team.”
Warhurst added: "Sam's just a goalscorer. He gets into so many good positions and he always puts them away. For him to come back into the team and get that goal was a big positive and it gave everyone a lift.”
Warhurst himself produced arguably his best performance since arriving at Sixfields, not only taking his 10th-minute goal well, but he was also effective in the press and when linking with those around him.
"It was a fantastic cross by Lee Evans and I'm delighted for Matty,” Hogg added. “I've said it all along and he's got to keep growing and keep believing in himself and keep pushing to play every game.
“Some of his out of possession work was terrific and I think he got his rewards for his effort and attitude and how he's taken setbacks after being left out of the team.”
