The acquisition of the purpose-built, 248-bedroom property on St George's Avenue follows months of planning and discussions, and represents a major investment in the school's future. With plans to retain two of its existing boarding houses alongside the new building, Bosworth's total boarding capacity is set to increase to approximately 300 beds, providing greater flexibility to accommodate its growing student community.

Previously used as accommodation for the University of Northampton, the four-storey building is ideally located between Bosworth's two main teaching facilities, the Newton Building and Bosworth Hall, bringing students closer to their classrooms, science laboratories, dining facilities and recreational spaces.

The building offers 248 single, en-suite bedrooms, each with space for studying and relaxing, alongside communal social areas, kitchens and dedicated laundry facilities.

The acquisition comes at an exciting time for Bosworth, which has seen growing demand for places. The school welcomes students from Northamptonshire, across the UK and around the world, with its international community contributing to a diverse and inclusive learning environment.

Tony Oulton, Headteacher at Bosworth Independent School, said:

"Completing the purchase of Bassett-Lowke Hall is a hugely exciting moment for Bosworth and something we have been working towards for a considerable time.

"As our student community continues to grow, it is important that we invest in facilities which reflect the high standards of education, pastoral care and support that we pride ourselves on delivering.

"The building's location, right at the heart of our school campus, presents a fantastic opportunity to further enhance the boarding experience, creating a welcoming environment where students can live, study, socialise and feel part of the wider Bosworth community.

"With our 50th anniversary approaching in 2027, the timing could not be more fitting. This investment is not just about providing additional accommodation; it is about looking ahead to the next chapter in Bosworth's history and ensuring we continue to offer an exceptional experience for future generations of students."

The building also celebrates an important part of Northampton's industrial heritage through its name, which honours Wenman Joseph Bassett-Lowke, the Northampton-born entrepreneur who established the renowned model railway and ship manufacturing business in 1899.

The Bassett-Lowke name became internationally recognised for its craftsmanship and innovation, reflecting the values of ambition and aspiration that Bosworth seeks to encourage among its students.

Founded in 1977, Bosworth Independent School has been part of Northampton's educational landscape for almost five decades, providing GCSE and A-level education to British and international students.

The school is now preparing a programme of activities and events throughout 2027 to mark its golden anniversary, celebrating its history, achievements and contribution to the local community.

Plans are also being explored for an official opening ceremony at Bassett-Lowke Hall during the anniversary year, bringing together members of the school community and special guests to mark the occasion.
