Ghost hunting team to return to ‘unreal’ location with lots of activity in Northampton this Halloween

A ghost hunting team is set to return to an “unreal” location with lots of activity in Northampton, for an event that is already sold out this Halloween.

Emma Saunders runs Ghostly Gatherings in Leighton Buzzard, and she and her team travel across the country for events – including Abington Park Museum on October 31.

The group was launched in 2019, after Emma spent a decade going out with other teams and having had paranormal experiences since childhood. It was following a conversation with a medium that she decided to launch a venture of her own.

“Ghostly Gatherings is primarily an events company that hires out haunted locations, like pubs, hotels or anywhere with a history,” Emma told the Chronicle & Echo. “A lot of the time we work in the home counties.”

The venture hosts twice-monthly events, workshops to help others learn how to use ghost hunting equipment, and Emma carries out house cleanses for people who have had spooky experiences they cannot seem to shake.

Ghostly Gatherings hosted its first event at Abington Park Museum towards the end of 2025 and Emma said: “It’s used by a lot of teams and we went in with an open mind. There was so much activity, it’s unreal. It’s known for hearing footsteps and whistling.”

The founder knew she wanted to return and was pleased to secure Halloween this year, when 10 investigators and 24 guests will take to the building to see what emerges.

Attendees will be split into groups of six and assigned a different area. They will rotate around the building so everyone gets a chance to see everywhere, and this will begin at 8pm until 1am the next morning. The hope is to host overnight events from 2027.

Emma’s standout moment from her lifetime of experiences is when she saw a gentleman in garden clothes, with tweed trousers, a waistcoat and cloth cap. She says he lifted his cup of tea as if to say hello, took a sip and disappeared, and Emma was touched that there was recognition both ways.

“When we get contacted to go into private dwellings, it’s nice to hear feedback that people feel their house is now their own again,” said Emma. “I morally can’t charge people for that and it’s nice to help.

“I’ve had these experiences since I was seven and I’m now in my fifties. I don’t get the fear factor anymore, but I love when someone comes along for the first time to see the look on their face.”
