Saints scrum-half McParland forced to withdraw from England training camp

Saints scrum-half Archie McParland has been forced to withdraw from the England squad due to illness.

McParland was one of six black, green and gold stars called up for a three-day training camp, which started at Pennyhill Park on Sunday and will run until Tuesday.

But the talented 21-year-old has not been able to take part and his place has been taken by Saracens No.9 Charlie Bracken, who started against Saints in a PREM Rugby Cup match at StoneX Stadium last Saturday.

It is more England frustration for McParland after he was forced to miss out on the summer matches after picking up a serious leg injury in the Gallagher PREM final victory against Exeter Chiefs in June.

McParland has been able to recover fully from that injury, which required 38 stitches, but illness has now forced him to miss the latest England get-together.

Alex Coles, Manny Iyogun, Henry Pollock, Fin Smith and Tommy Freeman were able to link up with the Red Rose on Sunday, but Alex Mitchell has remained with Saints as they continue to prepare for the start of the new PREM season later this month.
