Saints legend Lawes ready to show he can 'still mix it with the best of them'

Courtney Lawes admits he never thought he would represent a club other than Saints in the Gallagher PREM.

But the Northampton legend feels his decision to join Sale Sharks has been 'the right one' and he is ready to show he can 'still mix it with the best of them' when he makes his competitive debut for the Greater Manchester club this weekend.

Lawes has been selected to start at six in the PREM Rugby Cup match against Bath at the CorpAcq Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

And the former Saints star, who came through the Academy at Franklin's Gardens and represented the black, green and gold for 17 seasons before joining Brive in the summer of 2024, is primed and ready for his return to English rugby.

Lawes wrote on LinkedIn: "Another pre-season done and dusted, and my first start in a new jersey is coming this Sunday.

"Honestly, I never thought I'd represent any club other than my hometown in the PREM, but the opportunity to represent my wife's side of the family has made the decision to come back under another banner feel like the right one.

"Getting to know a new team, new calls and new environments with a completely different DNA has actually gone quite smoothly, which I'm hoping bodes well for the coming season.

"On a personal level, I'm excited to see if I can still mix it with the best of them, and the first step starts this Sunday.

"Let's go."
