Pollock would find it 'very hard' to leave 'amazing best mates' at Saints

Henry Pollock says he would find it 'very hard' to be away from his 'amazing best mates' at Saints should he decide to leave the club.

Pollock's current contract expires in the summer of 2027 but Saints are understandably keen to keep him.

And it seems Pollock is very keen to stay, with Eddie Hearn, who signed the Saints star to his Matchrooom Talent Agency in March this year, previously insisting the player wants to remain at Franklin's Gardens for the right financial offer.

“There's always a risk with taking decisions," said Pollock, speaking at Saints' pre-season media session on Monday.

"We've got some amazing best mates here. If I was to leave, it would be very hard to be away from them.

"I guess that's a decision I'm making myself. That's a decision I wanted to make if I do make that decision.

"At the same time, your career is so short that you look back on yourself and you almost regret not exploring new avenues, exploring different things.

“I think for me, you almost have to be quite selfish in that aspect think what's right for you. If that is staying here, then that's great. I'll be here for however long.

"If it's not, then I'll be open to new opportunities. I'll be open to doing different things, selfishly I think it's down to me at the end of the day."

Pollock has come through the Academy at Saints and is now one of the most talked about players in world rugby.

He has the ability to back that talk up, claiming the player of the match prize in Saints' Gallagher PREM final victory back in June, capping a stellar season for the extremely talented 21-year-old.

“Obviously, Northampton's been so great to me," Pollock said. "I've stayed here, I've been here my whole career and they've made me who I am.

"For me to stay here would be so special.

“Obviously, I know it's not as easy as that and I know there's lots of moving parts that come into play. That's why I have an amazing team around me that can work all the little things out for me.

"I'm very open to new opportunities and I'm very open to exploring that.

“I'm so young so I think it's only right that I assess those options and find the best decision for myself.

"I'm very much at the minute working through different scenarios and different avenues I can take.

"The big thing for me is making sure that my management are happy with it and they're doing all that stuff.

“I'm open to every opportunity. I'm not going to say no to stuff that I think will be good for my career and good for me.

"I'm very young but I'm still very open to lots of new things."

Pollock has enjoyed working with promoter Hearn, who has labelled the England back row forward 'a seven-figure player' in terms of what he should expect to earn.

“He (Hearn) is massively useful," Pollock said. "I don't only see him as a manager, I also see him as a mate. We have such a great relationship where I can call him up and talk to him about anything.

"I know at the same time that he's so busy. He's got a hundred things going on at one time and he's also got time for me which is so special.

"We have a great relationship and we talk loads and we message loads. We have calls regularly about decision making and what the best thing for me is.

“As I said, the team around us is amazing. I'm learning so much from him.

"It's just a different avenue that I can go into. It's given me more opportunity to showcase myself on larger scales.

“They (Matchroom) are doing all that stuff for me. Before it was just me and my manager whereas now I've got my manager and my whole team with Matchroom, they've got a couple of boys there.

"It's great and they've been so good with me.

"We have constant meetings, we have constant talks - we're working as a team through this.

"It's not just my decision, it's very much on my family and me. We talk to them about what we need to do and what we need to do what's best for me.

“That's what we're thinking of and that's what they're thinking of.

"It's great to have a team behind me that I know I can put the pressure off that side of it.

"I can almost let them do their job and I can just hopefully do mine on the pitch."
