A teenager basketball star from Northampton has won a silver medal, after the England team she plays for reached the final of the 3x3 School Games National Finals.

Brooke Leo from Upton has played basketball since she was around nine years old and has previously represented both England and Wales at national tournaments, due to her Welsh heritage.

The 17-year-old recently competed at the School Games National Finals at Loughborough University from August 29 to September 1, where the fast-paced 3x3 basketball was included for the first time, after she was selected in a 12 woman squad for England.

After competing against Ireland, Scotland, Wales and other England teams, Brooke scored the equalising point in the last 10 seconds of the semi-final against Ireland to send the game into overtime. Brooke then contributed to the team’s two points in overtime, which secured their place in the final against Scotland.

Unfortunately, the England team were not victorious in the final, but they did come away from the games with a silver medal.

Brooke’s mum, Laura Tooze, said: “We are extremely proud of Brooke she works so hard towards her dreams. To see her recognised by basketball England and get a silver medal is just incredible. We are excited for her journey ahead.”

Brooke, who formerly attended Northampton School for Girls, has moved to Charnwood College in Loughborough, where she also plays for the Loughborough and Leicester Riders.

The basketball season is about to start, where Brooke will be playing Division 2, under-18s and Women's Elite Academy Basketball League games.
