WEMBLEY 2020: Cobblers have historic edge over play-off rivals Exeter City

Recent history has seen the Cobblers get the better of Sky Bet League Two play-off final rivals Exeter City more often than not.

In the 12 meetings played between the clubs since 2012, the Cobblers have won seven, drawn two, and lost only three.

The current season saw honours even, with Exeter winning 3-2 at St James Park and the Cobblers triumphing 2-0 at the PTS Academy Stadium at the end of February, just two weeks before the Covid-19 enforced lockdown.

But by and large this is a fixture in which the Cobblers have held the upper hand in recent times, and indeed their overall League record against the Grecians, stretching back to 1920, is also pretty impressive.

In 117 matches between the clubs, Town have won 53 and drawn 34, losing 30.

Here, we take a pictorial look at the past 12 meetings between the sides, starting with a comprehensive win for Aidy Boothroyd's Town at Sixfields back in October, 2012...
