Hogg thrilled to land young striker after Cobblers agreeing deal with Man City
Chris Hogg says it was Matty Warhurst's desire to sign for Cobblers that ‘really stood out’ when he first spoke to Man City’s young striker about a potential move to Sixfields.
Keen to make the step into senior football this summer, the 19-year-old was not short on potential suitors – but he quickly made his mind up following conversations with Hogg – and Chris Doig – and was subsequently confirmed as Northampton’s sixth summer signing on Tuesday morning.
"We are delighted to bring Matty to the club," said Hogg. "He has an excellent pedigree, starting out at Oldham and then coming through the ranks at Manchester City and has scored lots of goals through the age groups. He also has major international tournament experience with England.
"Matty is a poacher and a finisher, he has excellent movement in the final third and a terrific work ethic and attitude and what really stood out to me, right from our very first conversation, was how keen he was to come to Northampton Town. There was a lot of interest in him but this was the club he was really keen to come to and that was exactly what we wanted to hear.”
"He has had a lot of success through his development years but now he really wants to get his first-team career up and running and that's exciting both for him and for us. As a player, he is a striker who can play on the shoulder of the last defender and run in behind. He is also very good at arriving centrally at the right time.
"We believe he has the hunger, desire and attributes to do well for Northampton Town and that he can be an excellent signing for the club both in the present and for the future."
