Cobblers takeover 'is good for the game', says Accrington boss
Accrington Stanley manager John Doolan believes Northampton’s recent takeover is ‘good for the game and good for the EFL’ ahead of Saturday’s League Two fixture at the Wham Stadium.
Accy, who haven’t lost at home this season, are unbeaten in seven and were thumping 5-0 winners at Rochdale last time out.

“We can’t wait for the weekend,” said Doolan. “We need to put in another performance. There’s a hunger and desire from the lads. Northampton is the challenge and there’s three points on offer.
“They’ve been a bit inconsistent at times but they had a good win last weekend. Chris Hogg has gone in there, I know him because we’ve been on a few courses together. He’s a good lad, he knows his stuff, and he’s finding his way.
“It’ll be a good challenge because they’ve got some good players. They have experience and youth and they’ve played different formations, but we know what to expect and it’s on us because we want to keep our unbeaten run going.
“The lads are pulling up trees and I love their attitude. They’re all committed and they all want to learn and develop and they’re getting their rewards.”
Asked about SAC’s recent takeover, Doolan said: “It’s good for the game and it’s good for the EFL. It shows that people want to watch and people want to get involved in our league. They obviously have some big names involved - but I’ll have Andy Holt (Accrington owner) any day of the week!”
Accy’s star attacker Josh Woods, who has seven goals already this season, came off injured last weekend, and Doolan was giving little away when questioned about his fitness.
“Josh is one we need to monitor and keep looking at,” he added. “Shaun Whalley is back on the grass and he’s doing well. That would be a boost for us to have him back.”
Woods has been linked with clubs higher up the pyramid following his superb start to the season.
“He’s doing well and he’s doing his talking on the pitch,” continued Doolan. “He’s going to get outside noise but he’s a level headed kid and he’ll get on with it. The scout list for our games has grown and grown so we know the players are all being watched.”
