Allotment launches crowdfunding campaign after Northampton tornado smashes 40 cherished community sheds
A Moulton allotment community has launched a crowdfunding campaign to replace their sheds and greenhouses after a freak tornado tore through their gardens this weekend.
The twister that blew through the north of the town on Saturday night (July 25) drew straight through the well-tended lots at Moulton Allotments on Rose Tree Close. The community returned to the gardens on Sunday to find months of hard work lay in tatters about them. More than 40 sheds as well as five greenhouses were torn apart by the tornado in a matter of seconds.

Dr Roger Colby, Managing director of Moulton Allotments CIC - a not-for-profit company - said: "Because of the lockdown, people have been putting a lot more time into their allotments. How ironic then that as we get into harvest time the greenhouses all get smashed.
"Continuing to be open during the lock-down has given a life-line to people young and old who, with the Government’s blessing, were able to escape the confines of their houses.
"The tornado has brought this to a shuddering halt due to the massive devastation. But not our community spirit because the next day saw a hundred or so plot holders and their families working together in high spirits clearing the debris. It was heartwarming to see and hear."

Moulton Allotments CIC is made up of almost 100 people who use the space to grow food, and also donates fresh produce to Northampton's food banks with the WeFeed Project.
Dr Colby said: "Moulton Allotments truly is like no other and right now we are desperately in need of your help so we can continue to help others. Please support us with a donation.
"The Parish Council have been remarkably helpful as well. They really do deserve a pat on the back for responding so quickly."
